Periferica International. Journal for cultural and territorial analysis
https://reuredc.uca.es/index.php/periferica

PERIFéRICA is a pioneering journal in Andalusia, the first to specialise in cultural analysis, founded in the year 2000 in collaboration with an Andalusian university, the University of Cádiz, and what

Since 2013, the journal has incorporated INTERNACIONAL (International) into its title, as it has been funded by the Cultural Observatory of the Atalaya Project (the General Secretariat of the Universities of the Junta de Andalucía and the ten public universities of Andalucía).

PERIFéRICA is an initiative that springs from southern Europe with the aim of providing peripheral views on socio-cultural phenomena.

PERIFéRICA is necessary because both workers and volunteers for culture tend to be peripheral with regards to their uses and attitudes, and they must regain a main role.

PERIFéRICA is, in essence, a space to discuss, reason and debate all these matters.

The PERIFéRICA journal is an annual publication which publishes an issue every January.

PERIFéRICA counts on the collaboration of external reviewers who are not part of its editorial team.

PERIFéRICA is indexed and included in the following repositories:

DOAJ - REDIB - DIALNET - DICE - LATINDEX - MIAR - DULCINEA - JOURNAL SCHOLAR METRIC – EBSCO
Servicio de Publicaciones de la Universidad de Cádizes-ESPeriferica International. https://reuredc.uca.es/index.php/periferica/article/view/12512

PACESETTERS is a research project that brings together partners and places, creative practice and research
perspectives that are out of the ordinary: climate scientists and artistic entrepreneurs, difficult heritages and whitewashed
villages, psychometrically validated surveys and circular aesthetics. In this article we explore the key concepts underpinning
PACESETTERS to not just adapt to but drive the transition into more just and sustainable economies. Genalguacil’s public
museum foundation, Galway’s art festival, and Nowa Huta’s cultural centre C.K. Norwida may be small-scale organisations
but they are lean, flexible and experienced enough to produce huge effects and impacts in their communities and beyond.
Florian SchneiderMari SandenEmil Royrvik Joseph Lockwood

https://reuredc.uca.es/index.php/periferica/article/view/12523

OFFF Seville is a festival based in Andalusia that proposes new cultural and creative coordinates, connecting the south with major international epicentres without seeking to imitate them, but rather asserting its own identity based on craftsmanship, cultural diversity and innovation from the periphery. OFFF Seville has become an international meeting point where creators from various disciplines share processes and explore the future of digital culture. This edition brings together renowned figures such as David Carson, Mitch Monson and Erin Sarofsky, alongside Spanish studios, especially from Andalusia, which demonstrate the creative vitality of the south.
Overall, OFFF Seville suggests that the geography of design is in constant flux and that creativity can emerge from anywhere. From Andalusia, artists are daring to occupy their own space on the global map of cultural innovation.
Virginia Moriche Tirado

https://reuredc.uca.es/index.php/periferica/article/view/12493

Video games are already a medium with a historical development long enough to have unfolded debates and complex reflections on its cultural status. This text analyses the main coordinates of that status, attending to ontological and specially social complexities, and focuses on a central discursive element: the question of the author. Video game authorship arises from general accepted ideas about the creative process, the medium’s own production specificities, and legitimation strategies. Three recent examples of strategies for constructing the author as a cultural marker are offered here: the figure of Hideo Kojima, the Playdate Podcast, and the short documentary Tribute.
Víctor Navarro-Remesal

https://reuredc.uca.es/index.php/periferica/article/view/12496

Abstract: Over the past two decades, a new type of public institution has emerged, positioned between a cultural center and a space for social innovation. Often located in former industrial buildings repurposed for public use, these initiatives have shifted from a cultural focus to an innovation-oriented approach, bringing in new actors and objectives. Three examples—Medialab (Madrid), Las Naves (València), and Canódrom (Barcelona)—show how local governments have transformed these spaces into hybrid hubs that combine social innovation with economic development. They now serve as key drivers of innovative, cross-cutting, participatory, and sustainable cultural policies. However, this evolution has also sparked debates and tensions regarding their goals.
Juan Arturo Rubio ArosteguiJoaquim Rius-UlldemolinsPau Díaz Solano

https://reuredc.uca.es/index.php/periferica/article/view/12498

The main objective of the research is to delve into the uses made of technology with artificial intelligence in museums for the knowledge of their collections, their didactic and their diffusion. The methodology has consisted of consulting highly indexed scientific literature, published in recent years, that addresses the topic raised. The results obtained have discovered that technologies with artificial intelligence have had significant development in the fields studied, especially since the pandemic. However, there are still many possibilities to explore, others to refine and improve, as well as not forgetting that the use of technologies with artificial intelligence must respond to the need to facilitate universal knowledge of users to museums.
María Ávila RodríguezInmaculada Delage GonzálezPablo Cisneros ÁlvarezYolanda López López

https://reuredc.uca.es/index.php/periferica/article/view/12499

The objective of this work is to analyze the process of protection and safeguarding of cultural heritage in Argentina, placing emphasis on its institutionalization and on some protection tools such as the regulatory framework, its registration and the allocation of resources during the period 2015-2023. The analysis is based on secondary and documented sources. We pose that the progress in cultural heritage safeguarding was achieved at the expense of certain “law inflation”, due to the multiplicity of rules, regulations and protocols and the lack of a proportional advance in budget allocation or seeking of specific resources for this purpose.
Viviana LeonardiValentina ViegoPatricia Susana Ercolani

https://reuredc.uca.es/index.php/periferica/article/view/12500

The main objective of this work is to promote the adaptation of professional higher education in music to a music industry that is undergoing rapid transformation. The music sector has established itself as an intergenerational cultural element of enormous relevance, and its presence, especially in the field of live music, drives the need for an in-depth analysis that places training at the centre of professional development. This study examines higher music education in our country and highlights the importance of reviewing it from a renewed perspective, open to innovation and capable of integrating different professional viewpoints. The new generations need solid and accessible role models, and for this to be possible, it is essential that schools and universities give a voice to the professionals who build the industry in all its dimensions, with a vision oriented towards the future and the real needs of the sector. The study was developed using a qualitative approach based on exploratory research. The conclusions call for an update of professional studies from a contemporary perspective, fully aligned with the current evolution of the music industry and its training demands.
Ana Gómez de Castro

https://reuredc.uca.es/index.php/periferica/article/view/12504

The belief in the vertical uniqueness of the human species in relation to other animate species, rather than

being the result of a philosophical positioning, has, at least until the present day, been one that was both shared and imme-
diate. We, as humans, would be distinguished by our capacity to reason (lagos) as an expression of our ability to say (legein),

and then decide, choosing between various alternatives; we would, in short, be distinguished by our unique intelligence, as
a maker of cognitive, ethical and aesthetic judgements (which Kant put down to different forms of activation of the human
spirit). This hierarchy was a fortiori extended to plants, as living beings that were nevertheless considered devoid of anima, and even more so to non-living things. This being the case, it is interesting that, following countless discussions comparing it to animal intelligence, our uniqueness seems to be in question with regard to inert matter, matter that is itself unable to act
but of which machines are made.
Víctor Gómez Pin
