Professional Music Education in Spain Facing the Challenges of the Present
Abstract
The main objective of this work is to promote the adaptation of professional higher education in music to a music industry that is undergoing rapid transformation. The music sector has established itself as an intergenerational cultural element of enormous relevance, and its presence, especially in the field of live music, drives the need for an in-depth analysis that places training at the centre of professional development. This study examines higher music education in our country and highlights the importance of reviewing it from a renewed perspective, open to innovation and capable of integrating different professional viewpoints. The new generations need solid and accessible role models, and for this to be possible, it is essential that schools and universities give a voice to the professionals who build the industry in all its dimensions, with a vision oriented towards the future and the real needs of the sector. The study was developed using a qualitative approach based on exploratory research. The conclusions call for an update of professional studies from a contemporary perspective, fully aligned with the current evolution of the music industry and its training demands.
